Hi. >Your not really suppost to be running a "server" from home with GOL's >service. I know. The reason I want to set one up is for learning purposes. I'd like to learn how to set-up a secure web server and get some cgi/PHP programming experience. All in the name of getting a better job :) (Technically speaking though I don't see anywahere in the GOL contract that says I can't set up a server ... maybe they should add that to their contract just for clarity's sake). >I don't have that service myself (just got cable modem last week), so I >can't >say much about the IP address except it is dynamically assigned. In my case >my >cable modem company, Jcom, dynamically assigned me an IP which BTW hasn't >changed. I also setup a win2k pc for my wife and used ipconfig to get the >ip that >Jcom assigned me. How is you service? Do you like it? Set-up and speed ok? Do they have any restrictions on setting up a server? If the service is good and they don't mind me setting up a *very* low bandwidth server (call it a reasearch project) then maybe it's worth considering a switch to another provider.
