Well, the precompiled binary for 0.8 on mozilla.org worked with kinput2 out of
the box for me on Kondara 2000. (I haven't even bothered with JLP. Is it
supposed to give you anything beyond Japanese menus?) 

A couple of wild ideas:

* Do you have your XMODIFIERS set to "@example.com=kinput2"? (I assume you do, since
you said kterm is working.)
* It looks like the precompiled binary is dependent on my local copy of gtk
1.2.x. Is your copy of gtk configured to accomodate kinput2? Does kinput2
work on any other gtk-dependent program?
