Bad Hardware: IO-DATA HDVS drives

All,

Warning ... do not purchase I-O DATA HDVS external Ultra-SCSI drives.

Why?

They aren't SCSI. They consist of a bargain-basement Samsung ATAPI drive
with a SCSI<->ATAPI translation board. The board doesn't seem to do too good of
a job translating valid SCSI commands (or perhaps the drive doesn't actually
support them), so their usefulness as a non-Intel boot drive is nil.

Once again, "ya gets what ya pays for". Forewarned is forearmed.
