Well - perhaps technology and tapes have improved since then. I was using a connor 8GB SCSI DAT drive purchased in 1992. Had problems with tapes written 6m previous. It could also have been a drive issue. Found that I needed to clean the drive after each backup. This kind of experience makes me nervous. Though DLT is probably what I need longer term, am looking for an interum media. Thinking DVD with some automation at the moment. -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan Byrne [mailto:j-byrne@example.com] Sent: Monday, September 25, 2000 11:33 AM To: tlug@example.com Subject: Re: Backup on Linux [DVD?] Jonathan Shore (jshore@example.com) wrote: > I'm actually a bit concerned with the lifetime of tapes. In that sense I We use DAT for backups here, I use one at home, and we also have one on the TLUG server, and tape failures have proven uncommon. We've only had one go bad on the TLUG server in a year and a half, and experience on other drives has been similar. What kind of tape life did you experience?
