I also think that it is unfair to neglect TL's historical role in commercializing I18N for Linux. Although this doesn't bear directly on Linux kernel and admin utility development, it is a sensible business model. In such a case, why not use other's work for the core system? That's what open source is all about! This is not to defend some of the real boners TL has committed (such as the /usr/jp hierarchy and the proprietary cluster fiasco).
