The bone that I was picking was the nasty tendency of distros to change things
from the default just for the sake of change.

_Why_ did TL insist on putting the default apache htdocs in /home/httpd? _Why_
did RedHat mandate that xscreensaver's modules go into
/usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver? /var/opt/majordom for majordomo ... I don't
bloody think so.

There is NO reason to symlink /usr/X11R6/lib to /usr/lib/X11. None. If a
configure script can't deal with libraries being in the vendor-specified
location (vendor, in this case, being XFree86), the configure script is broken.

If a distro maker can't/won't take the time to FIX the configuration scripts
to make their binaries, instead taking the easy way out by symlinking things
to hell and back, then one should really question whether their distro is
worth using.

Nothing personal against SUSE -- they're just following slackware's lead.

Somewhat personal against RedHat -- they shouldn't be manipulating things
just because they've the highest market share.

Very personal against TL. TL used to be a bunch of well-meaning, but often
clueless folk ... now that their VC-supplied management have disposed of
Cliff and Iris, they've morphed into a bunch of evil, money-grubbing bastards.
