Hey, this is pretty cool (wacked out as you would expect from a Gtk <haff, kaff, choke, bletch> app), but LANG=ja_JP XMODIFIERS="@example.com=kinput2" mozilla actually allows you to Japanese input via XIM. Of course the status window appears as a separate popup window, not necessarily on the same desktop as your Mozilla window, and you have to focus on the root window to actually input any Japanese, and the preedit data ends up in the text window that expects input and doubles up when the candidate is confirmed (but without ending up in the input buffer so if you delete the "extra characters", you lose). "The amazing thing about a dancing bear is not how badly it sucks, but that it dances at all." Gtk still sucks, but at least now it sometimes blows, too. Gets you coming and going.[1] :-) And if you think that assessment is unjustified, consider this: the implementor of the XIM support didn't have time to implement a simple off-the-spot method that works, but _did_ have time to colorize the preedit feedback (just like Ms. Ime). Sheesh ... but at least at least it isn't "transparent". Anyway, if I must go to a site that insists on frames, I now have an alternative to manually navigating them via Lynx. YOW!
