Some Colorado models had problems, IIRC.  Check hardware compatiblity
list.  I haven't used ftape in a long time, so I don't know current
status.

Does /dev/rft0 exist?  It's possible that your base system is old
enough that the device node hasn't been created.  grep for ftape or
floppy tape in /dev/MAKEDEV, and see which devices it creates for the
floppy tapes.

/usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt for Linux 2.2.14 indicates
that the correct name for that series of devices is /dev/*qft[0-3],
not /dev/*rft[0-3].  See if /dev/qft0 exists and make a link to that.

You should consider using the n?zqft0 device instead, since that does
transparent compression.  I don't know what the advantage of that over
letting tar do it is, so ask somebody else ;-)
