SunOS also appears to use /var/mail as defined in <maillock.h>.  The Sun
machine I have my mail account on has $MAIL defined by default as
/usr/mail which is actually symbolic link to /var/mail. But DEC OSF1
uses the Berkeley <paths.h> with _PATH_MAILDIR defined as /var/mail in
some older versions and /var/spool/mail later. Has DEC gone back to
/var/mail in still recent versions?
