I have just run into this brain fart on two consecutive online payment
systems and figured other tluggers might know more about the issue and
possibly ways around it.  For anyone who knows less about this then me,
AVS[1] is a method used to verify the address on credit cards, which in
itself is an admirable thing, but it doesn't seem to work with Japanese
addresses at all[2].  In other words if you have a Japanese issued
credit card you can't buy from online stores using AVS.
