FYI....Seagate uses the same internal drives for their external drives.

Then, they do provide warnings and fixes for these series but... what about external drives ? (Maxtor One Touch, Seagate Go...)
They also might include those faulty drives, and seagate might not want to advertise about it as there's no way to update their firmware or check drive S/N (afaik without unsealing/breaking cases and voiding warranty).


There is a web page[2] that you can check whether your drive is
effected.  You can get the model and serial number using smartctl i.e.

# smartctl -a /dev/sda | head

find /sys/devices -name model | xargs cat All drives and faster :)
