I don't know much about this. You know more than I. 

The second goal listed on http://flac.sourceforge.net/goals.html 
indicates that this is an issue. What are your experiences with 
lossless (or wannabe lossless) audio compression? 

I don't know if this issue is limited to FLAC, or affects other 
lossless codecs such as the Shorten and True Audio codecs.

Of course, classic lossless codecs such as gzip, compress, zip, bzip2 
are reliably lossless, but since they are not tailored for audio, 
have low compression rates for audio.
