2.5 is the development kernel tree, so nothing is guaranteed to
work and lots of stuff is guaranteed to be broken.

Are you sure you don't want a 2.4.x kernel?  Of course,
there are those who will say nothing is guaranteed to work there,
either :-)

If this is your first kernel compile, I do suggest using 2.4.17,
the latest stable kernel.
