The following message was intended for the list.  Turnbull-san has already
sent his next reply to the list, for which I add now, the problem is in the
nkf manual page because other Japanese manual pages display as Japanese, I'm
pretty sure the esc characters were lost before the man command output to
the terminal the something resembling raw JIS, other Japanese manual pages
display correctly, and I doubt that groff was updated.

Thank you for suggesting the English-language manual page.  It works on my
system too.  Why didn't I think of it before.  (Um, since I'm known for
sarcasm, I'd better state that I'm being sincere here.  I do thank you and
it is something I should have thought of.)

By the way, does anyone know why other Japanese-language manual pages
display in Japanese?  (Does this question need a smiley?)
