Wol is correct as far as he goes, but British English, like "Chinese"
(what's that? ;-) or "Japanese" (try to spy on a high schools girls'
chat in Hachinohe sometime ;-) is far more unified when writing than
speaking.

I've reviewed papers where one author is American and the other is
British (at least with respect to spelling), and the result is
appalling.
