My knowledge was not so good, since you can 何かを上手にする。
Stick with my example that うまい means "excellent" while 上手 means
"skilful", and you'll be OK, I think.

I was making a joke about 大和語 (Yamato-go), but my wife informs me that
和語 (wa-go), is an actual term of art.
