Is anyone familiar with this phrase(moninoawaru). I'm not sure I have it spelled right and I can't seem to find it in the dictionaries. It might be おわる. I heard it in the commentary on Ozu's film "Late Spring" and it means something like "a tragic sense of life." It seems like many of the Japanese films I've seen have this feeling and I wondered what the correct spelling is. Is this an integral part to understanding the culture like for instance the concepts of 本音/建前? Thanks Steve S.
