tlug: NFS root hierarchy for diskless workstations

Jeez, some things are easy.

Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/nfsroot.txt, syslinux a floppy,
recompile 2.2.10 with a single built-in ethernet driver, cp that to
the floppy, add an appropriate syslinux.cfg, and we're up.

Does anybody know of a source for a listing of a minimal root
hierarchy for diskless workstations? I would like them to boot to a
VC login at first, we'll go for X11 later (I'm going to need to
configure at least two different X servers). I don't want them to
have very much, and probably no {,/sbin}/* stuff at all. (Once I'm
done with this, there will be such a list at www.tlug.or.jp ;-), but
why reinvent the wheel?)

The point here is not to save on hard drive space (they have plenty,
currently stuffed with Windows 3.1 and/or NT 3.51), it is to make sure
that under some circumstances all workstations boot the same systems,
and that _I_ control what that is (including minor variations required
by different hardware configurations).
