Hello Sam,

If you already have Linux installed, you can find these good references
in /usr/doc/HOWTO :

"less /usr/doc/HOWTO/Dos-Win-to-Linux-HOWTO" will give you a summary of
Dos/Windows commands that maps to equivalent Linux ones.

"less /usr/doc/HOWTO/Reading-List-HOWTO" will give you a whole list of
books spanning a wide range of topics of all the basic stuff that you
might want to know about Linux.

There are a ton of other documents in /usr/doc/HOWTO that can teach you
a lot about Linux. Just use "cd /usr/doc/HOWTO" to change directories
there, and "ls" to list the files and use "less <filename>" (my favourite)
or "more <filename>" to view the files.

If you don't have Linux installed yet, you can find the exact copies
(probably more updated too) in ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/linux/docs/*

Read Matt Welsh's "Running Linux" too. He's the founder of the Linux
Documentation Project and also recently he's given a talk in a TLUG
technical meeting on high performance Java too.

Hope that helps. You'll have a lot of fun with Linux, I guarantee you that.

regards,
Chiew
