Get as much of that crap out of the server itself as possible. At least until it's stable and very fast. Rendering multiple Japanese fonts takes far too long, it really kills startup on say XEmacs. (2) Ghostscript is not a client here, but functions as a server to xfs? That's weird.... (3) What's wrong with the freetype stuff? Eg, xfs-tt. Does ghostscript do that much better a job?
