Do you do this by dial-up to an ISP? If so, you could just use the ISP's server. Another approach would be to configure your home machine for dial-up and connect to it directly. I seem to recall once hearing of an SMTP variant that used user authentication before accepting mail. That would also be a safe way to go. Unfortunately, I don't know any more about it than this.
