Any ideas how do they find proper kernel revision number?

In RH they have kernels numbered like, let's say 2.0.36-11, and
accordingly modules dir is /lib/modules/2.0.36-11, but `uname -r`
shows just 2.0.36. If I compile kernel and "make install_modules"
they go into /lib/modules/2.0.36

Which directory then RH will pick up on next reboot?
