tlug: Kousoku Cable Modem Access (Was that stupid Contact Lens BS)

Hi all,

I am looking into high speed (512kbps/1Mps) cable modem access for my
system through ALLNet (http://www.allnet.ne.jp). They are a fairly new
company and inform me that they have as yet had no *nix clients. As such,
the rep I talked to was unsure about linux working with their system and
said that he would get back to me. I told him that I thought it was a
(simple?) matter of configging the hardware  - LAN card (required) and
cable modem, and after that it was basic TCP/IP regardless of the OS.

Do any of you have experience with cable modems?
I figured it must be possible to set it up, but the sales rep I talked to
wasn't too computer savvy beyond the actual cable line bit.
Any pointers?
