tlug: MAX process number

Hello,

 This is a first time to post a question about Linux.
I'm using TurboLinux 3.0J. It seems that a max process
number is 256. Because I can not run more than 256 processes.
I'd like to change it.(more than 256)

Anyone know about it ?
