Apparently upgrading from 2.0.36 -> 2.2.0 isn't too >> painful. mike> Is upgrading to 2.1.x more painful than to 2.2.0? Why? Scott's an optimist. Partly. The other part is that when Scott does an upgrade, he pretty much rebuilds the whole distribution against it. That will fix problems like the modutils/ksyms vs. 2.0.3x "can't find modules" buglet. This means that his working environment tends to be more consistent and up-to-date than most people. And of course release kernels have some work done to maximize backward compatibility---"feature freeze" does that somewhat automatically as all the tools catch up, and also experience builds up in what the typical problems are, sometimes getting kernel fixes. -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ What are those two straight lines for?
