'info ld' makes reference to aiding users in 'the Sean> transition to GNU `ld' from the MRI linker'... In general Unix linkers are called `ld', I doubt Sun would call theirs anything else. This can get confusing ;-) but I'm sure you are right. >> Obviously, such a linker would not be available on Linux.) Sean> ?? sorry, its not so obvious.... Yes, as you say `ld' can link objects as long as they're in the correct format. What I meant is that often OSes provide special features (threads, real-time, etc), and sometimes these are provided through special linker actions; these would not be available on Linux. Sean> I assumed that 'gmake' was if anything, a souped up 'make' Usually GNU products are featureful, but if features conflict with something in Stallman's religion they get omitted with extreme prejudice. :-) -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ What are those two straight lines for?
