Jim> How long it lasts is another question. Not very long, at least for me, I think. I signed up Tokyu Cable's cable modem service. Before I signed up I called their support and asked about getting a static IP. They said they are working on it. Ok, I told him, I can use dynamic DNS in the meantime. Well, I finally started playing with it today. I tried to telnet from work to the DHCP assigned IP address. No luck! inet addr:172.16.49.239 Bcast:172.16.51.255 Mask:255.255.252.0 As long as there is traffic, I can keep renewing the lease indefinitely, but I can't see of from outside catv.ne.jp :( Could still be a routing problem, I suppose. I was trying to find some reference to what IP address are for private use. I think 192.168.1 is ok, but what about other classes?
