Further to this thread, I had the bright idea (just to deprive myself of a LITTLE more sleep this evening) of trying another card --- I have a 3Com 3C562C/3C563C dual function card that ran happily under 2.9.10 version Card Services. Plugged it in, and ... same problem. So now I'm COMPLETELY stumped.
