Thanks to Stephen, David, and Tanaka-san for your advice regarding the
error that I was getting when I start a kterm.  Essentially, y'all were
right: although I do get a locale-related error message I can still
display Japanese and can input using kinput2/canna into the vi editor.

A glutton for punishment, perhaps, I'm now planning my assualt on mule....
