Ok, TJH, since you were getting worried about the disco revival getting out of hand . . . I woke up in a SOHO doorway a file server gnu my name. It said you can do a download tonight then take your notebook and walk away Gnu are you? Gnu Gnu, Gnu Gnu! Gnu are you? Gnu Gnu, Gnu Gnu! :-) I just saw something interesting. It's called Gnu Cash - the Gnu way to manage your money. This is a merger of several competing projects, including X-Accountant. Rather than duplicate each other, they have pooled their resources to produce just one killer product, something that could probably only happen so easily in free software. Gnu Cash will be a Quicken type of program, and what they have so far looks quite impressive. It will be ported to gtk/gnome and emacs. Right now, they have screen shots of the motif version and the gnome version (those look good!). They are also committed to i18n, so it will be usable anywhere, with any country's currency. This is going to be a really killer project. The only bad news I see is that 1) they say it isn't stable yet, so for now people who need stability should use X-Accountant, which is. On the other hand, what a lot of open source authors call unstable is as good as lot of shrinkwrap stuff in your local software store :-) 2) It's bad news for Quicken :-) For all the details, take a look at: <http://www.gnucash.org/> (Note to Scott: if you've got time before the TL release, I'd recommend throwing this shrimp on the barbie; It's gonna be a winner).
