Duh, I made a newbie mistake if ever. In SunOS, as far as I remember, you could just su and then enter the password and get all the privilages of root. I tried 'su - root' and now everything works fine. Is this really a SunOS/Linux difference? Or, is this due to a RH setup diff? Or, is it due to my stupidity? <grin> Eric S.
