Acutally, Within Japan thats a fairly easy two criteria for a company. All computers purchased will be Japanese Capable. All Employees should be Japanese Literate. Even companies with 1 or two gaijin running around WILL be running on Japanese capable machines, and for one person in a hundred in your organization, he can ask for help now and again. Don't put system boot files or the link in MBCS if the OS needs to load a module to use it though. (Like most Unix, untill you start some windowing systems many Unix will NOT deal with MBCS on the console, but how often is that used) for personal machines its an even easier criterion to meet. Even a behemoth like MS or IBM, files private to the Japanese office can be however they want. -Scott Scott Stone did state upon Fri, Sep 11, 1998 at 09:44:35AM +0900: > On Thu, 10 Sep 1998 TBaetzle@example.com wrote: > > > Hi Jonathan, > > > > you asked: > > > Moreover, why would a > > > person who couldn't read Japanese want to download a file that was in > > > Japanese anyway? > > > > > How about a learner who just wants to get program up and running? > > Being interested in a language doesn't necessarily mean that one's > > also fluent in it. > > precisely. > > I'd say that it's okay to use non-7bit filenames as long as the following > two criteria can be met: > > 1.
