Reminds me of the story that a couple of years ago at a Communications
Theory conference in the UK (Edinburgh, I think) there was an old guy
persistently asking thorny questions. People began to say "who is this guy?"
(or `chap' or whatever). A quick rummage in the registrations turned up the
name: Claude Shannon!

(I think no-one knew he was still alive. Bit like St Paul popping into the
Vatican.)
