Then you have much better chances to track the problem down. I personally would use Slackware for that. TL is good for installs which run as they should, but if you need to do some serious hacking, Slackware is better ( =easier. TL is rather complex under the hood ). Debian might be good for that, too ( You can do a basic installation entirely with diskettes ). After that your chances are a lot better.
