Success. It was the DNS/NIS. I had been very stupid and forgotten the simplest: setting up /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/host.conf and /etc/hosts . Oh well, I guess that I learned another "STUPID" lesson. I am so happy that I am on the net completely with Linux. Now I will become more of a lurker... Thank you for the Mac Emulator information, the many lessons in ISP connect and mail, and for the friendly conversation. I am not saying good-bye, I am just saying thank you properly. Karl-Max, I am going to try the PLIP setup which you recommended for the laptop. I don't mean to make any jealous, but I wanted to tell you that I have a friend who will send me a copy of RedHat 5.1 from america as a gift.
