tlug: cd to file

What's the best way to copy a CD's entire contents to an image file? I've
tried:

dd if=/dev/hdc of=cdrom.img bs=1k count= (output from isosize / 1024)

but I get a read I/O error every time... probably because it's reading
past the end of the CD, since the CD doesn't end on a 1k block boundary.
Using bs=1 takes all day... so how do I do this??
