I should point out that my DeskJet 850 is a North American model, running under Windows 95-J with the HP Japanese DeskJet 850 driver. It works fine with Linux, but I've never tried a Japanese DeskJet. PHT has an Epson inkjet running on Linux, but I don't know if it's a Japanese or U.S. model (Scott?).
