Call forwarding should >be a common feature (if not the all-important reverting part). >The NEC Aterm IT50 DSU is my front-runner now, with just an hour to go. NTT does have call forwarding, but it can't revert to a local port on your computer if no one answers. Call forwarding is dumb; it just intercepts your call on the way and re-routes it somewhere else instead of sending it to your phone number. If no one answers at somewhere else, the call forwarding system can't do anything about that. Unless maybe somewhere else is also using call forwarding and the call winds up going to somebody who doesn't even know you :-) The NEC IT50 is a good and reasonably priced TA that I think you will be happy with. >The PHS/PDAs talk about Pmail or Imail or Amail ad nausium. Why do they P-mail (or Pee Mail, as I like to think of it :-) ) is basically a way to make your PHS function as an alphanumeric pager, rather than e-mail per se. They aren't doing it to compete with e-mail, they're doing it to compete with big beeper companies like Tokyo Telemessage. >all try to make up their own methods, when email on Internet works great? >And which are reasonable adaptations (e.g., UUI mail using the D channel?) >versus a hopeless branding and commercialization? >> DDI sends a notification right to your PHS when you're back in range, >> telling you you have voice mail. > >That's good. I would hope that the others have something like it too. >I'll have to ask them. When I used Astel, they didn't. You had to either have their paging service or call in and check, one of the reasons I went with DDI when I got a new PHS. I'm not sure if Astel has changed that or not, though. It's been about a year since I got my DDI.
