Last month I saw at A-Master (block D3 at the impress' Akiba map) a Bt848-based board been demonstrated under FreeBSD. I think it will also work with Linux. > 3. They decode "moji housou" (how do you call it in English?), i.e., text data sent in the interval between frames, with a quality similar to videotext. Some models can also decode Bitcast signals. > 4. Some boards have S-VHS input. What is the advantage over > composite video RCA jacks? (I.e., how much is S-VHS worth?) S-VHS input means the luminance and crominance signals come separated (Y-C), giving better quality and more robustness against noise. > 2. One idea I had in mind was to use NTT's called ID service in the following way: 1) call home from my PHS 2) my TA (a Zyxel Omni TA128) gets the caller ID and sends it over the RS-232C 3) mgetty identify the number as belonging to my PHS 4) hang up 5) mgetty starts a dial-out process that connects to my ISP 6) upon connection, update the name server entry with DynDNS 7) and I can access my box from outside Calls from numbers other than of my PHS would be ignored by mgetty and handled by my answering machine. The difficult I found trying to implement the process above was getting steps 2 and 5 to work. Anyone familiar with mgetty dare to try patching it? --- A.Tomita,Jr. atomita@example.com atomita@example.com -------------------------------------------------------------- Next TLUG Meeting: 13 June Sat, Tokyo Station Yaesu gate 12:30 Featuring Stone and Turnbull on .rpm and .deb packages Next Nomikai: 17 July, 19:30 Tengu TokyoEkiMae 03-3275-3691 After June 13, the next meeting is 8 August at Tokyo Station -------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsor: PHT, makers of TurboLinux http://www.pht.co.jp
