Hmm, well, that's certainly something to think about. In that case, while I'm not fond of Sportsters, I would have to recommend an external voice Sportster, I guess. Running Linux often means that we are faced with a choice of the hardware we would like to have and the hardware that's supported, with video cards being a happy exception. Don't get me started on printers :-) BTW (not that I would ever want to have one, but), does Linux support IBM Mwave cards?
