AFAIK, DOS is a watered-down adaptation of one of the UNIX operating
systems of the time.  At least, DOS 2.0 is.  I've heard that DOS 1.0 is
completely different.. DOS 2.0 is basically the same (as far as the
interface goes) as the current "DOS 7.0 (aka Win95/NT)" UI.  So, it seems
like a 'commandline UNIX for beginners' gone amok.

Then again, let's see you run *any* kind of UNIX, even ones available in
1980, on a 4.77MHz 8-bit processor with 640K of ram (maximum) and no hard
drive ;)
