Hmm, it isn't supposed to look warped at any resolution. That's something
that even Jonathan the Problem Magnet hasn't attracted yet :-) Are you sure
you have the right video driver selected and your monitor isn't sick?

If you run xf86config and set it to 1280 x 1024, what is the highest color
depth it will let you choose? I confess to not knowing how much video
memory you need to go 24 bpp at the resolution, but I think you need over
four meg. I know four meg will go 16M colors at 1024 x 768, but I think
you'll be limited to 64K colors at 1280 x 1024. But hey, everybody needs an
8 meg video card, right? :-)

The command line switch when you start X and want to set your color depth
is:
startx -bpp nn
Where nn is the color depth (8, 16, 24) that you want.

Gee, I remember when I thought I would never be able to answer any question
here - but then, I'm going to attach the disclaimer that I might have no
idea what I'm talking about, just to be on the safe side :-)
