It should work if you have libc.so.6 on your system.  You did
an ldconfig -v   as root right?

At the shell prompt, can you execute the bash shell...

  bash$ /bin/bash

do you get an error message?   Don't log out yet.   If you do
  exec login

can you login?   If you can't login, you're going to encounter
difficulties when you reboot.
