I take it that the "J" up there means "Japanese"?

Since this is a kpathsea application, you need to find the texmf.cnf
file and edit it.  Usually somewhere below /usr[/local]/lib/texmf/.
YMMV.  Sorry, I've never actually edited one, so I can't advise you on 
that.
