-------------------------------------------------------- tlug note from Jason Molenda <crash@example.com> -------------------------------------------------------- > I received two of these today where there is no address in the > To: field. Check out the header: There are really two To: fields in an e-mail note. The analogy that is used is that of a real letter going through the postal service; there is an address written on the envelope, and a "To:" line on the letter itself (inside the envelope). The one on the envelope is the only one that the postal service cares about, and they do not have to be the same. Same deal with SMTP mail notes. The To: on the "envelope" is often identical to the To: in the message, but it doesn't have to be so. The acutal mechanism becomes obvious if you send a message to an SMTP port by hand.
