As far as I could tell fetchmail was never intended to implement IMAP, just to allow you to use IMAP as an interface with about the same capabilities as SMTP. This is a convenience for the server. ESR's Freeware page (http://locke.ccil.org:80/~esr/esr-freeware.html) states this explicitly: This is a full-featured, robust and very configurable POP2/POP3/APOP/IMAP mail forwarder. It's designed to pick up mail from a mail server host and deliver it just as though it had arrived on your client machine via SMTP. IMAP backends for most popular Emacs MUAs should start appearing shortly, since IMAP is becoming a pretty hot topic. You could also write to Mark Crispin (who wrote IMAP) at the University of Washington and see what he knows about it. (See the IMAP docs for his address.) -- Stephen J.
