tlug: XEmacs & XIM, redux

--------------------------------------------------------
tlug note from "Stephen J. Turnbull" <turnbull@example.com>
--------------------------------------------------------
Sorry about spewing misinformation regarding XEmacs and XIM. (The
statements about kinput2 not working with kterm 6.2.0 under XIM is
still true, at least to the extent that I tried hard to get them to
work together and got nothing for my pains but segfaults.)

The code in src/intl.c is legacy code; it doesn't get used anywhere,
and why it's still there I can't figure out. The features "i18n3" and
"i18n4" apprently refer to X11R3 and -R4, so are completely obsolete.

Now I see how this works, you not only have to request "--with-mule",
but you also need to say "--with-xim" (apparently you don't need to
specify "=xlib" or "=motif", though). Evidently if you request
"--with-mule" but do not request "-with-xim", "-with-wnn", or
"--with-canna" you are assumed to default to using Quail/SKK for
input. It's not clear from configure what happens if you compile with
multiple input methods defined.

We're grinding away on yet another compile of XEmacs (third time in 24
hours), and this time I'll stay shut up until I have real results to
report :-) See you next week ... . ;-)
