This is true, but it doesn't seem to work for the Japanese version
of the machine. I'm just trying to get it to work normally; I'm not
even up to the Nihongo end  of things yet!

It's supposed to take the various filters that are in the system
(dvi, gs, etc.) and make them work for the given printer. Seems
to me that HP-Japan altered something in the printer to make it
not work as a US-model would. I went with HP under the illusion
that it should be easy to support under Linux. Sigh... All I get
is junk across the top few lines of a page, which continues if I
don't turn off the printer.

Still no luck here. More reading time involved to find some
kind of hack I guess. :-(
