Yes, I can see how you'd do that; you give the file manager (or the window manager) the ability to interpret calls like "exec mule %s", where %s gets the filename substituted in. However, I don't want to fire up a new mule every time I edit a new file. Shige> Nope, our mailbox checking program is like 60k, with zero Shige> code from xbiff or xmailbox. I just looked at it and its the binary Shige> is only 14k, does it really use up 580kb resident? Well, I'm not sure how all this works. I suspect that my 60kB xbiff binary is unstripped. Since it's dynamically linked, a lot of the 580kB is going to be shared library. I have no idea where all the 4MB is going. Shige> Is there anything else xbiff does? xbiff doesn't do very much, it just tells you that a file has changed. It's not a very featureful program. xlbiff (I think it's called) is much nicer but requires mh to be properly installed so I haven't done it yet. xlbiff does most of what you mention, plus if you click on the icon, a window givnig a summary listing pops up, if you click on a line, you get a "head" on the message body. I don't think it supports autolaunch of the mail program although since it's a companion to mh it probably does (then again, maybe not, most users would use xmh I guess).
