>The next question is that could anyone recommend some of the necessary >stuff such as network cards, cables, etc... to create a small LAN in my >house? I currently have four machines. They are: - I'd recommend to use "The Platform" - shop near Computer LAOX in Akihabara. they have cheap Intel Pro100 PCI cards (100baseT) at the same price as 10baseT. - that is if your motherboard has PCI - likely. You have to invest in Hub, though - about 15 000 Yen, or you can buy Combo adapters and use BNC cables, its is cheaper but less convenient. (100/10 hub is too expensive so I would recommend to settle for 10 Mb/s Hub.) There you can also shop for necessary cables. BTW in the same shop I've seen Planet 100Mb/s cards - and it looks like there are built around the DEC ethernet chip. Anybody aware of that? If it is true - those should be the best choice at reasonable price. The cheapest solution is to built 10base - BNC network, but try to buy cards from 3Com or Intel, or SMC only - at least you will save yourself from headache with drivers and driver updates. Cheaper cards tend to become obsolete in an year in average. Yuri Yuri F. Anissimov, Office: Cybernetech Corporation. Hany Bldg. 1-1-21 Ningyocho, Nihombashi Chuou-Ku Tokyo 103, Japan tel.
